I have made innovation affordable, understandable, and profitable. I am now ready to make a transition in my career to apply my technical and business knowledge to an organization wishing to find integrative solutions to scaling up their business.

For over 30 years, I have created data-driven processes that are accurate, precise, and robust for my clients, bringing technology, methodologies, and automation to small and medium-sized companies that have traditionally only been available to large-budget corporations. I make process innovation affordable, understandable, and profitable.
EXPERIENCE
Microwave/Analog Electrical / Manufacturing Engineering Consultant
2007 – Present
SVTronics (Dallas Contract Manufacturer): Developed and built factory automation to improve process throughput and yields. Analyzed and improved measurement and analytic techniques for assessing the validity of inventory work-in-process for several product lines using Lean/Six Sigma, DOE, and Kaizen Blitz techniques. Documented processes (Assembly instruction, PFMEA, PERT, Value Stream Mapping, Process Control Plan, Manloading analysis, Cpk Analysis, Control Charts). Implemented Visual Factory techniques, streamlined process flows, and consolidated database to a central location for rapid routine analyses. Designed manufacturing process for General Electric product.
  • Successfully implemented and improved process for assembling and testing an oil sensor used for monitoring fluid levels in locomotives. Revised and automated processes for five-fold throughput improvement, decreasing failure rate from 40% to less than 5%, and improved measurement variation by a factor of 8.
  • Wrote software for troubleshooting and benchmarking test equipment, eliminating months of costly meeting time between representatives of various companies..
  • Defined test KPIs to allow client to evaluate progress in over a dozen processes on manufacturing lines.
Texas Instruments, Inc.: Gathered and analyzed data regarding RFIC developed for smart radio applications. Worked with a team to implement RF and analog hardware. Trained technicians how to troubleshoot RF/analog and digital circuitry. Developed information and material flow infrastructure with our contract manufacturers. Developed a laboratory for testing initial rollout of IC. Designed and built ad hoc circuits needed for RF matching and for fixing various digital communication bus problems.
  • Successfully troubleshot and tested a testchip at frequencies that were previously unachievable for this RFIC (245 MS/s).
  • Wrote software for benchmarking test equipment and for manufacturing as needed that improved line speed by 20%.
  • Incorporated contract manufacturers to decrease the cost of testing, saving 30% cost of engineering labor.
Nokia, Inc.: Support effort for type-approval for Nokia’s GSM cellular base stations. Evaluate ATE software and hardware for GSM base station testing. Write routines for semi-automation of these tests (VB6 and VB.net). Perform uncertainty calculations to determine statistical error in measurement routines. Performed gauge R&R studies to ensure uniformity of ATE fixtures. Wrote standard work documentation for uniformity in testing procedures.
  • Used statistical methods to find issues with measurement processes for strategic planning which would allow Nokia to increase ATE throughput by over 60%.
  • Wrote calibration software that allowed Nokia to save $250,000 on buying complex equipment that would perform the same function.
  • Introduced documentation such as PFMEAs, Run Charts, and Process Control Plans to measurement effort so that malfunctioning equipment could be detected and reliability of equipment could be ensured on measurement line.
Keithley Instruments, Inc.: Wrote software applications for customers of Keithley instruments (Visual Studio). Provided technical support for the marketing and sales effort of RF Spectrum Analyzers and Signal Generators and software that produced and analyzed WLAN, WiMax, 802.11 a,b,g signals. Provided answers to customers using Keithley’s RF measurement product line. Solved customers’ challenges regarding RF and DC measurements. Focused on solar energy applications, communicating sales and research information with marketing effort. Examined instrument capability for measuring I-V measurements of semiconductor devices, photovoltaic cells, modules, and panels for use in manufacturing, research, and installation applications. Examined effects on panel performance in the event cells were damaged or shaded. Automated transfer of an Oracle knowledge database to HTML.
  • Developed research software (VB6) to measure Seebeck effect in semiconductor research applications
  • Identified and developed relationships with MIMO and beamforming research leaders in academia in US universities.
  • Completed database transfer from Oracle to Wiki in six weeks. Project originally appeared to be a 6 month effort. Reduced required effort by 70% using innovative automation techniques implemented using VB in this project.
Celerity, Inc.: Developed manufacturing software (VB.NET) to improve product yield for liquid flow controllers (LFCs) used in semiconductor manufacturing applications. Performed EMI and thermal analysis of LFCs as necessary to improve their specified performance. As a manager, organized software and hardware development efforts of three engineers and two technicians. Addressed customer and marketing issues as required. Perform statistical Cp, Cpk, and other KPI (key performance indicator) studies pertaining to the production line capacity and LFC specifications. Authored documents which would make our processes conform with good manufacturing practices. Instituted lean manufacturing principles on production lines.
  • Improved product throughput from 5 per week to 40 per week through modifying automation hardware and software.
  • Developed RF techniques and hardware for matching ultrasonic sensor crystals using scattering parameters.
